One of the multilayer films consists of both metallic and dielectric thin films at subwavelength is called metal-insulator-metal (MIM) structure. An appropriate illumination condition of light for the surface has a chance to induce surface plasmon resonance (SPR), and the resultant spectroscopic phenomenon is interesting. In this study, we have started to simulate the phenomena and to do some basic experiments. The study objective is to develop a novel optical filter for optical communications.

Although there seem to be signs of an economic recovery, compared with the rapidly growing economies in China and Southeast Asia, the local economy remains depressed. One of the important roles of Colleges of Technology is to contribute to fostering engineers who use their creativity to develop technology, so that they will become leaders in the industrial world. At the same time, career education must be designed to produce practical results for those students who feel worried about their own prospects and the economic situation. However, since a repeater student's motivation to studies is lower than an active student's one, practice of career education is difficult. In this research, the student-assisted teaching of delivery lecture and open class (hereafter TA) has been introduced as one of the methods for increasing a repeater student's motivation and the effectiveness of TA was investigated, using a ten-year follow-up. As a result, the TA activity proved effective not only in enhancing students' motivation and fostering their creativity, but also in raising their awareness of their future as engineers who can see situations from the point of view of other people.

We developed new pump named EHD pump which has no mechanical drive unit and this pump used the EHD phenomenon. The EHD (electro-hydro-dynamics) phenomenon is a phenomenon which generates the flow in insulation fluid by applying a high voltage electric field. We are developing new robot arm using artificial muscle driven by EHD pump. In this study, new robot arm which used EHD pump as the frame was made as a trial production, and that evaluation was done.

For the stability of an inverted pendulum was due to reaction wheel is limited so that small deviations of the mass center of gravity. For static stability in the state broke the balance, Toluca is needed to overcome the moment of force in the direction of fall. Therefore, the aim of this study was conducted basic research for the purpose of developing a device that generates a non-contact and continuous torque.

We propose the parallel mechanism that cut part of moving parts. It is expected simplification and low cost and popular. This report has described simplified 3-Axis mechanism for parallel link on movement of the human wrist and the small-scale automatic carry, the camera platform, the care bed. Compared to the original parallel link mechanism, flexibility will be limited. The proposed mechanism is expected to a save space and simplified mechanism, and simplified analysis depending on the purpose.

Many capsule robots are designed for moving inside human intestine that has a variety of challenging tasks for medical applications such as drug delivery, disease diagnosis and teleoperated surgical robot. In order to complete relevant medical purpose, these capsule robots need to overcome difficulty for rough terrain traversing. Our developed capsule robot has a smooth outer surface and is driven by inertia force and friction force. According to the smooth outer surface and the pulse driven mechanism, the capsule robot easily slips when it collides with environment. For this reason, this paper proposes an idea to traverse over rough terrain. It is concerned with two important factors, adhesion and movable center of mass. To prevent slips, we have attached small needles for holding its position before going to next position. The results show that the capsule robot pleasingly traverses over a height as high as the radius of the capsule robot. Ultimately, this paper shows a mathematical model for traversing over rough terrain.
