Robots are being introduced into simple tasks in the point of production and 3D printers can make complex configuration without experienced technologists. Although Monozukuri without human intervention is accelerating in the point of production, it is important for technologists to keep sensitive for Monozukuri. I am going to propose an action plan for what we should do for technologist education in order for technologists to keep sensitive.

In optics field, removing repetitive patterns on polished surface is important for refraining light interference. An algorithm for generating random circular paths was implemented. Polishing simulations and polishing runs with a raster path and a random circular path were performed on photomask, and waviness of polished surfaces was analyzed by Fourier transform. In polishing runs, amplitude of peaks in the wavelength region was suppressed with a random circular path, 0.5 nm, compared with a raster path, 0.9 nm. At this time, positioning and velocity errors of polishing machine were compensated by changing command value of NC code.

A force sensor integrated fast tool servo (FS-FTS) has been developed by the authors for precision fabrication and on-machine surface form measurement of micro-structured surfaces, in which the on-machine surface form measurement is realized by using the diamond tool tip as a force controlled probe tip. In this paper, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are carried out for characterizing the contact between the diamond tool tip and the workpiece surface with a contact depth at the subnanometric range. The subnanometric elastic-plastic transition contact depth, at which the plastic deformation in the workpiece is initiated, is identified based on the MD simulation. It is found that the tool edge geometry is an important factor to influence the elastic-plastic transition contact depth. The simulation results provide benefits for optimizing the design of the next generation FS-FTS, in which the tool-workpiece contact is desired to be controlled at the elastic deformation range so that there would be no damage to the workpiece during the FS-FTS based on-machine surface form measurement process.

The formation of defects such as pits on SiC is a serious concern in epitaxial growth of graphene. We have developed a process with plasma oxidation to form graphene with the low density of pits. In this scheme, a key is the formation of a carbon layer at the SiO
2/SiC interface during plasma oxidation at near room temperature. In this talk, we employ two different oxidation processes, which are plasma and thermal oxidation. Then we investigate chemical bonding of carbon species at the SiO
2/SiC interfaces after these oxidation. We discuss the impact of oxidation processes on the structure and the composition of the SiO
2/SiC interface.

In general, NC data used for machining is made by a CAM software. However, it is requires knowledge and skill to judge whether the tool path and tool postures are suitable or not. This paper is aiming at developing a system to experience cutting force in 3-axis controlled milling process. In this study, operating the end mill by a haptic device that can manipulate objects in a virtual space, the cutting condition is estimated from the removed voxel, and the force in the cutting process can be calculated. It was confirmed that the experience of cutting force had become possible by force feedback, which depends on the difference between uses of end mills such as up-cut and down-cut, grooving and side milling.
