    Main operations at the face in coal mine are devided as follows:
    Operations (1) Mining of coal seam
    (2) Loading of coal mined
    (3) Face conveyance
    The operations are mechanized by use of various drills, hammers and coal cutters in the mining of coal seam (1) and by various conveyors in the face conveyance (3) at each But the operatio which needs most large labor and controling its efficiency in the coal loading (2), is under the present conditions not to be out of trial manufacture.
    With much early necessities of loader at Miike Coal Mine and Miike Machinery Works, the design of, it was started by us In May 1947, then the trial one was manufacturedin September the same year. In Miyanoura Pit the mining method, face structure, and timberingmethod were improved to meet this machine, on the other hand, miners and macbin operators were trained stronKly for it: a.number of lorder installed is -increased one by one, at lastit was developed from the starge of study into that of essential utilization, with the use of MFL 13 type machine, the targets of average 16 tons per miner and 12 tons per face worker can be attainable at the present conditions.
    In the future with more improvement of the machine; especially increase of the loading efficiency and, improvement of the research on increasing coal production to meet the capacity of loader at the face, it is expected to increase actively the efficiency in accordance with the increased number of the machine.
    The mechanization of loading operation which is in undeveloped field in Japan will get no table actual results on the efficiency of coal mining after the rapid improvement of machine and its operation place were executed by manufacturers-side and machine users-side as one, man: beforehanded with the actual utilization of small type loader. Moreover it will make a foundation of notable increase efficiency in future.

    The authors, describe the results of electrical prospecting at Yasumiishi in the Yanahara Mine. In this survey the self -potential method, the apparent resistivity method and the potential ratio method were used. Three orebodies Were found in the area.

    Hosokura differential flotation concentrator treats 12, 000 metric tons crude ore, grade of whichis Pb 2%, Zn 5%. One of the most important metallurgical problems of the concentrator is that how far be able to lower the iron content of zinc concentrate. For the sphalerites from Hosokura: show various tenor of colour from resinous to very dark one, of which darker one is far, abundant. This fact made the metallurgist believe that the iron content of the sphalerite from Hosokura is essentially high, so it is hopeless to lower the iron content in zinc concentrate from certain limit.
    The iron, content of the great number of sphalerite grain in zinc concentrate has been determined statistically by their refractive indices. In spite of the grea difference in colour, the iron content of the most of sphalerites fall in the narrow range of ±4% Fe, and higher than this value were very few. The results of the assay-size analyses and microscopically determined mineral composition in each size also approximately accord with this value. According-to R. E. Head and others several tables and diagrams have been made to show the mineral composite ion of each size and their free and locked relationships. From these data it was concluded that there is room of further improvement in grade of zinc concentrate if free pyrite was effectively depressed. It was suggested that to isolate the composite grains and to concentrate the sphalerite in finer size range in which recovery is higher than in coarser range, the regrinding of the feed for zinc circuit is advisable.

    I. On the reduction equilibriu of cuprous sulphide by hydrogen: The reduction equilibrium of solid guprous sulphide by hydrqgen has been studied by means of the kinetic method and the relationship of equilibrium constant and temperature found for equilibfium
    Cu2S (s) +H2-2Cu (s) +H2S, log K=log PH2S/PH2=-2, 231/T-0.666.
    From the above resultand the known dissociation equilibrinm of hydrogen sulphide the following equatibn of dissociation pressureof cupprous sulphide was obtained, log Ps2=-13, 780/T+3.706.
    II.On the reduction equilibrium of cuprous sulPhide in molten coppcr by hydrogen: Obtaining the equilibrium state by passing mixed gases of hydrogen sulphide and hydrogenover molten copper and determining sulphur content in copper, the followlng equilibrium was determined, Cu2S (in Cu) +H2-2Cu (1) +H2S, log K=log PH2s/PH2·[Cu2S]=-3, 428/T-0.812.
    By combining the above result with the known thermodynamical data the relationship of equilibriumconstant and temperature also found for equilibrium 2Cu2S (in Cu)-4Cu (1) +S2, log Kcu2S=log Ps2/[Cu2S] 2=-16, 640/T+3, 766 and for equilibrium Cu2S (in Cu) +2CO2=2Cu (1) +2CO+SO2, log K=log P2co·Pso2/P2co2·[Cu2S]=-18, 830/T6.256.
