The equilibrium in the reduction of solid cobaltous sulphide by hydrogen gas hasbeen studied with the aid of a dynamical method as descrebed in the first report. The effect of temperature upon the equilibrium constant and the free energy change in the reaction within the range 631-775°C has been determined. The experimental data are summarized by the equations as follows:
CoS (s) +H
2=Co (s) +H
2S; log Kp=-3516/T+1.323 ΔF°=16082-6.051T
By combining the equations here determined with the known data of hydrogen sulphide, the following equations have been obtained with regard to the dissociation pressure of solid cobalt-ous sulphide
2CoS(s) =2Co (s) +S2; logPs
2=-16418/T+7.746 ΔF°C=75096-35.43T
And also by combining the values here obtained with the existing ones, the following thermo-dynamic values in relation to the formation of solid cobaltous sulphide have been calculated.Co(s) + (r) =CoS(s);ΔH298.1=-22772 calΔF°C298.1=-22965 cal
