Thailand is one of the countries where Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) and other production process management methods have been developed. This study analyzes the characteristics of Thailand's national GAP, referred to as QGAP, primarily from the perspective of extension and supporting systems. A case study was conducted in Chantaburi province. Agricultural offices in the province and districts disseminate the knowledge and technology of QGAP and train orchard farmers in collaboration with agricultural cooperatives and various types of farmers' groups. QGAP-certified durian and mangosteen are exported through the packing centers certified with Good Manufacturing Practice certifications. The food chain for these products has been set up to secure food safety. The research concludes that QGAP has functioned effectively in small-scale orchard faming, under the decentralized extension and supporting system.

This paper outlines analysis of cyclical fluctuation in the pork dressed carcass wholesale price, the price of female piglets for breeding, and the price of crossbred piglets for meat, using monthly data for 30 years from 1989. The research analyzes the variable cyclical fluctuation as the function of time, as in the long run, technical and social factors gradually change, along with continuous changes in the hog cycle. The results of the research indicate that the cycle period of the pork dressed carcass wholesale price and that of the price of crossbred piglets for meat have increased in length, even as the cycle period of the price of female piglets for breeding has been shortened and then increased in recent years. The following explanations are offered. First, as pork is difficult to differentiate from imported products, and the decline of the pork self-sufficiency rate in recent years, increased import volume at the time of the price rise can be considered as a reason for the cycle period increase of pork dressed carcass wholesale prices. Second, increasing hardware through an increase of large-scale hog breeding farmers has made it difficult to adjust the breeding amount with changes in pork prices, leading to the cycle period growth of the pork dressed carcass wholesale prices and the price of crossbred piglets for meat. Third, decreases in both farmers with breeding female pigs for childcare and the ratio of the consistent management of breeding and fattening influence cycle period changes in the price of female piglets for breeding.

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the background, current situation, and problems of the Okinawa Floricultural Cooperative Association, which supplies chrysanthemum seedlings from a subsidiary in Indonesia to its members. In addition, we consider some important issues that arise when producer organizations work on overseas activity of seedling production. Weather disasters such as typhoons and droughts are inevitable in Okinawa, which is therefore not suitable for stable seedling production. Therefore, the Okinawa Floricultural Cooperative Association established P.T. Transplants Indonesia in 1996 as a subsidiary in West Java, Indonesia, which is blessed with good weather conditions and capable of year-round production at low cost. Subsidiaries produce seedlings according to the production plan laid out by the agricultural cooperative, using excellent varieties selected by the Okinawa Floricultural Cooperative Association as the mother stock. The seedlings are transported by air in a planned and stable manner and supplied to members through the agricultural cooperative. As a result, members of the agricultural cooperative can stably obtain inexpensive seedlings.

In China, compared with large-scale stores such as GMS, small retail stores occupy a 6:4 ratio share in the Chinese retail market. Therefore, some Japanese food manufacturers have focused on using these small retail stores as a means to enter the Chinese market. This study analyzes the functions of small-scale retail stores in China using case studies of Company A and Company B, both which have successfully expanded sales channels using small-scale retail stores. The research implication considers the specific strategies used by both companies to expand sales using small retail stores.

This paper clarifies the current state of paddy production and rice distribution under the “three-industrial harmonization” in Xinli Town, Panjin City, Liaoning Province, China. This study is based on analyses of field survey data mainly for Panjin Kanghe Ecological Agriculture Co., Ltd. The results of the analysis are as follows. The harmonization of the three industries has promoted the upscaling of paddy production. The distribution of rice has changed from multistage to direct distribution, between producers and consumers, through the sixth industrialization model. Cooperation among agriculture, manufacturing and commerce has revitalized the rural area. The new model of farmer's land subleasing has created opportunities for farmers to increase income through re-employment. The above results show that the development and convergence of the “three-industrial harmonization” is of great significance in enhancing efficient paddy production and rice distribution in Xinli Town.

The purpose of this paper is to clarify how the salmon(Oncorhynchus keta)industry in Okhotsk, Hokkaido, has developed according to the food chain approach required by EU. In the countries where export-oriented fisheries have expanded, they are likely to establish a food safety strategy to meet EU required standards. The salmon industry in Hokkaido supplies raw materials to the export-oriented processing industries in Asia, and they process and re-export value added salmon products to EU and other markets. Since the Hokkaido salmon industry is located at the end of the food chain of salmon export, some processing companies prefer to adopt EUHACCP as an export strategy. However, EUHACCP, which is regarded as a public certification, needs the monitoring and auditing system to be strictly controlled by local governments and local health centers to assure food safety. Capacity development of food safety control should be achieved not only at salmon industry but also local government level.
