Al-4.5%Cu alloy melts were cast into the full mold at 698, 747 and 797°C. The solidification pattern of Al-4.5%Cu alloy in the full mold was examined by temperature measurements using thermocouples and the effect of reduced pressure on the solidification of the alloy in the full mold was examined. The solidification pattern in the mold was compared with that of numerical calculation, and also the value of heat transfer coefficient at metal-mold interface was determined. The heat transfer coefficients at the metal-mold interface in the full mold process are 0.004∼0.006cal/cm
2·s·°C under atmospheric pressure and 0.01∼0.10cal/cm
2·s·°C under reduced pressure.
