    The sintering characteristics of the Cu-γ2(Cu9Al4)-Ni system mixed powder compacts, composed of Cu and Ni metallic powders γ2 alloy powders and (Cu-Ni) and (γ2-Ni) composite powders, which are respectively those of Cu and γ2 composite chemically plated with Ni, have been dilatometrically investigated. The mechanical properties of these sintered compacts at different sintering conditions were measured.
    The results obtained were summarized as follows.
    (1) The (Cu-Ni)-γ2 mixed powder compacts were contacted, but the other mixed powder compacts swelled during the conventional sintering.
    (2) The above (Cu-Ni)-γ2 compact sintered at 1000°C for 60 minutes showed the tensile strength of 12.5 kg/mm2, the elongation of 4% and the hardness (RH) of 70.
    (3) By repressing and resintering or by hot repressing, these mechanical properties were remarkably improved, especially after the hot respressing at 900°C by 400 kg/cm2 for 30 minutes, the tensile strength, elongation and hardness (RH) obtained were 30.5 kg/mm2, 13% and 96.5 respectively.

    By using the Suzuki-type wear testing machine, the bearing performance of oil impregnated aluminium bronze sintered bearings, made from copper composite powders chemically plated with nickel and γ2(Cu9Al4) alloy powders, was measured, and also compared with those of the oil impregnated Cu-Sn and Fe-Cu sintered bearings which are in practical use.
    The following results are obtained from this experiment.
    (1) The bearing temperature of the Cu-Sn and the Fe-Cu sintered bearings raised linearly with increasing the PV factor. But the bearing temperature of the aluminium bronze sintered bearings scarcely raised up to 2500 kg/cm2⋅m/min of the PV factor which is the upper limit of this experiment, e.g. the temperature increment is about 40°C.
    (2) Judging from a correlation between the temperature coefficient of friction and the PV factor the oil impregnated aluminium bronze sintered bearings are thought to be preferably employed in running at high speed and heavy loading operation.

    Single crystals of perovskyte-type Pb(ZrxTi1-x)O3 were grown by flux method using a mixture of PbO-H3BO3-Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3. The following results were obtained.
    (1) The largest single crystal (2.5mm×2.5mm×1mm) was obtained from the melt with the composition of Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3: flux=25:75 (weight percent), where the composition of flux is; PbO: H3BO3=50:50 (mol percent).
    (2) Single crystal Pb(Zr0.25Ti0.75)O3 having the shape of square pyramid was usually obtained from the center of the crucible.
    (3) There was no difference in crystal size between the cooling rate of 25°C/hr and that of 50°C/hr for crystal growth from the melt at 1000-1100°C.
    (4) The region of the composition for obtaining single crystals of Pb(ZrxTi1-x)O3 was respective 40≤PbO≤63, 12≤H3BO3≤22 and 20≤Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3≤45 at weight percent in the PbO-H3BO3-Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3 system.

    Ferric iron oxide prepared from pyrite is under a wide practical use as raw materials for the ferrite magnet.
    The present report is devoted to describe the making process and various properties of the ferric iron oxide, comparing with' the other iron oxides made from FeCl2 or FeSO4.
