    The printed wiring board plays the more important role in the mounting technology of smaller, lighter, thinner and more functional electronic equipment, being closely related with the advances of IC technology. The PWB's fundamental technology consists of the pattern formation by printing technology and the interconnection by plating. I describe here the PWB market, the higher density technology of electonic equipment, the copper clad laminates, the finner manufacturing technology of PWB and the future aspect.

    Focussing on the liquid photo-imageable solder mask, an outline has been given concerning the technological tendency of liquid type photoresists and resist inks for printed wiring boards. With the increasing progress of the surface mount technology, higher density and finer wirings are demanded for printed wiring boards, and a higher accuracy and a higher reliability are required for the solder masks. From these backgrounds, electrodeposition type photo-resists for forming patterns were developed, and the liquid photoimageable solder masks used already widely as a main stream of the solder masks are planned to improve further its characteristics such as resolution and electroless gold plating resistance, etc. On the other hand, the development of an ink capable of screen cleaning with an alkali solution is carried out concerning the resist ink due to strengthening the regulation for chlorine group solvents.

    Dry film photoresist as the material of the image transfer fabrication is required better resolution and definition in manufacturing high density and multilayer PWBs. This paper explains the components of dry film photoresist and the proper condition for manufacturing PWBs in high grade. Besides, we discuss the future of higher resolution image transfer technology in the application of dry film photoresist.

    As personal electrical equipments such as video tape recorder and personal computer are getting smaller year by year, the component density on printed circuit boards used in these equipments becomes high increasingly. On the higher density board, plated holes which connect outer layer circuits with inner layer circuits electrically become smaller and smaller, and the shape of board becomes more complicated. These issues are bottleneck in printed circuit board manufacturing processes. For drilling machines, Hitachi Seiko Ltd. has developed new technology such as digital software servo-control system combined with machine's microvibration analysis and new drilling techniques. Hitachi Seiko has received many patents with this new technology in several major countries in the world. And also received the prestigious Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers' 1987 Technology Award for of the integrated technology of small hole drilling. For routing machines, we have developed new technology such as spot face routing and pin-less routing system. This paper describes the new technology in small hole drilling and routing process for printed circuit boards.

    The effects of the dot feature with edge shape fluctuation on tonal appearance are studied by using computer generated dot pattern and computer simulation technique based on image processing. The unperturbed chain and square dots which are used in conventional reproduction process are formed for simulation. The various types of fluctuations on edge shape are generated from composition of harmonic waves having random initial phase and added to unperturbed dot. It has been shown from this study that the optical dot gain is closely correlated with the perimeter of the dot pattern and the width of optical point spread caused by light diffusion effect in substratum. The correlation between dot gain and the perimeter is very strong when the point spread is very small. The correlation becomes weaker as the point spread becomes wider than the half size of dot separation and/or the spatial frequency components contained in edge fluctuation become higher.

    Recently, it is important to make or send human face images by computers in the intelligent information communication, man-machine interface and so on. Computer graphics techniques to render faces or hair really, therefore, are studied at many laboratories. In order to make a photographical face image, especially among elements of a face, it is important to render lips naturally. The present paper describes a method to render human lips, especially female rouged lips with sizzle feeling. At first, an image processing method to make three dimensional data of lips from several photos of female lips is proposed. Next, a rendering method to make real images of lips from the three dimensional data is described. In this process. a technique to represent fine wrinkles on lip surfaces by scattering reflection rays was applied to get realistic image of female lips.

    Autocorrelation function and Wiener spectrum used to analyze the random process with time series can be readily applied to analyze the noise in a photographic image. In this paper, those parameters are introduced and described. Measurement results of the Wiener spectra of negative color film, X-ray film and on demand type inkjet image are shown. Color noise images based on the Saunders model are presented by computer simulation. Those obtained color images are evaluated and analyzed, and the contributions to image quality of the Red, Green and Blue components noise are also discussed.

    During the last thirty years after development of compressible type of blanket, there have been continued a number of improvement by a mumber of manufacturers. Consequently, the total quality of these compressible type of blanket have been highly improved. Accordance with the progress of press quality, printing technology and subsidiary materials for printing processes, demands for high quality blankets have increased. The quality of compressible blanket which meet these demands has made this type popular. This paper gives some basic informations for compressible offset blanket.
