There is an increasing demand in the market for lithium-ion secondary batteries that are large in size and have a high energy density. However, this comes with the challenge of safety compliance. We have developed a technology to print a heat-resistant ceramic layer on electrode using Ricoh printing technology. Alumina (Al2O3), which has a heat resistance of 1000°C or higher, was converted into an inkjet ink and printed directly on the electrode to improve the safety of lithium-ion secondary batteries during abnormal heat generation. In addition to this, we have resolved issues found in other printing methods pertaining to print quality and decreased output performance by changing the ink composition and materials used. Since ink jet printing is a non-contact printing method, we were able to execute thin film printing without damaging the base electrode. Moreover, to establish higher-order safety technology for inkjet printing of battery materials, we are currently developing a heat-resistant separator to replace the current polyolefin separator and the separator layer printing technology with a solid electrolyte material that does not use combustion.

SEKONIC Electronics manufactures products, such as inorganic electroluminescence (EL) and electronic paper display elements that utilize coating and screen-printing technology. As these film-based products are thin and light, they contribute to the weight reduction and structural simplification of the products to be mounted. In addition, they comprise energy-saving electronic components with low power consumption of the element. This paper introduces the features and printing technology of each product associated with SEKONIC Electronics.

This study aims to develop a valid and reliable questionnaire to evaluate the personal ability to use handwriting skills in everyday life and the workplace. The sample comprised 1,065 office workers who responded to a questionnaire, which was designed to understand how they use handwriting, how they understand the effect of handwriting, and how they select stationery to write. Factor analysis revealed the following seven factors: (1) communication through handwritten messages, (2) utilization of diagrams and illustrations, (3) affinity for pen and paper, (4) usage of various writing tools, (5) affinity for their own handwriting characters, (6) note-taking skills, and (7) understanding the value of handwriting skills. Based on the analysis, we developed a “handwriting ability scale,” which consists of the seven subscales. We also analyzed how the handwriting ability score differs according to gender, age, academic qualifications, and occupation. We believe this scale can be used to promote the use of handwriting and as a marketing tool for selling stationery products.
