The colorimetric analysis for determining residual thiosulfate in processed photographic materials has been recently investigated instead of the methylene-blue method used as a current standard. In this method, cadmium iodide is used for preparing the blue iodostarch solution, however, it is undesirable to use the reagent in view of the protection of environmental pollution.
In this study, an another iodide compound was used instead of CdI2. The sample of processed photographic paper was immersed in eluent and the effluent was then added to a blue ZnI2-KIO3-amylose (iodine-amylose) solution. The amount of residual S2O32- in sample was measured from the absorbance of the solution at 605 nm. An analytical sensitivity and repeatability in this experiment were discussed. The stability of the iodine-amylose solution for aging and the effect of the presence of developing agent on the measurement of residual S2O32- were also discussed.
The result was obtained that ZnI2 was fairly used instead of CdI2 for determining the residual S2O32- by the colorimetric method. ZnI2-amylose solution also showed the good stability for aging as well as CdI2-amylose solution. The results obtained from two different methods, colorimetric and methylene-blue, used with a same sample were compared.

The feasibility of the half tone production of magneto-optic image is presented. The recording medium is ferromagnetic thin film (82% Ni-Fe permalloy) prepared by vacuum evaporation. The tonal image which was caused by the circular magnetization or radialmagnetization is detected by longitudinal Faraday effect. In order to produce both magnetizations, two methods were examined: one was to get the concentric circular magnetizationby magnetic field generated from direct current through a fine copper wire and the other wasto get the radial magnetization by the magnetic field generated from a flat coil.
The tonal part in the image was considered that those directions of magnetization fixed by magnetic evaporation effect took various forms of distribution similar to that of external magnetic fields.
The intensification of double layer evaporation as described in the previous paper was also tried and this procedure was applicable for curved distribution of magnetization.

It was studied how the rate of a stepwise oxidation of latent image silver clusters in redox buffer solutions (Agn+Oxid.→Agn-1+Ag++Red.) depended on redox potential and Br- ion concentration of the buffers while keeping thermodynamic driving force for the oxidation invariable. It was concluded that as the size of Agn increased the rate-determining process for the stepwise oxidation gradually shifted from electron transfer process to silver ion elimination process.
