Incorporation experiments with ¹⁴C-phenylalanine or ¹⁴C-tyrosine as metabolites into the hypodermal cuticle of normal and mutant (lemon and lethal lemon) larvae were carried out. It was found from the experimental results that in the lethal lemon larvae the radioactivity of alkali-insoluble protein containing as principal component hard cuticle protein, scleroprotein, is conspiculously weaker in both head and body than in normal larvae.

M- and N-active sialoglycopeptides released by ficin from human erythrocytes interact with positively charged substances, such as toluidine blue, bovine albumin and sodium chloride. The interaction belongs to a reversible semipolar (or ionic) bond reacton. It is suggested that each of the M- and N-active sialoglyco-peptides possesses a cation-exchange behaviour.

ABH blood group activities of red cells and gastric mucosa from two kinds of anuran, Xenopus laevis and Rana catesbiana (bull-frog) were examined by absorption test of group-specific agglutinins and by precipitin reaction with group-specific precipitins.
Red cells of Xenopus have not any blood group activities and those of bull-frogs have strong B activity with weak H and A ones. Water-soluble fractions from the gastric mucosa of Xenopus were shown to have A and H activities and those of bull-frogs A, B and H activities. Blood group activities of these gastric preparations were also confirmed by destruction of A activity in Xenopus by treatment with α-N-acetyl-D-galactosaminidase and B activity in bull-frogs by treatment with α-D-galactosidase, with development of H activity in both of them

Ionization of tyrosyl residues in charcoal-defatted bovine serum albumin was measured spectrophotometrically in the absence and presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate and 20 straight chain fatty acids. Analysis of the experimental data revealed at least three distinct groups of tyrosyl residues in BSA, each including 4, 10 and 6 residues. Suppressive effect of SDS and fatty acids on the tyrosyl ionization has been confirmed.
