The environment greatly influences acquirement of the behavior of an artificial life creature and artifact object. However, the conventional studies have not accurately considered in a model environmental influence. Instead, these influences are analyzed by replacing them into a simple approximation model. This study focuses on the modeling water environmental influence precisely. As a basic research, the water environment is modeled and constructed by taking account in gravity, buoyancy and a water viscosity. Physics engine is employed for a calculation of an object behavior in the water. Simulation results show that the obtained object movement is quite similar to a realistic world one.

This study aims at an establishment of air environment modeling, which makes it possible to simulate objects movement in an air. To do so, air viscosity, resistance and moment are prepared and incorporated as modeling functions into the modeling environment. The object behavior in the air is figured out by adopting an open source physics engine. Simulation on a falling object and floating one in the air verified that their movement reflects with realistic world phenomenon.

This study aims at developing a navigation system for a large size of logistic center. We have reported that it was effective for picking navigation to formulate it as TSP and to adopt LCT as a solution of TSP. This paper verifies our proposed method to be applicable to a real large size navigation system through simulation.

Development of methods for handling such microparts will increasingly be needed. Microparts are commonly handled by gripping, using tweezers for example. However, this method poses difficulties in quick release, owing to static electricity. Here we propose a new handling method based on a liquid bridging force. The pick & place method and the assembly method using liquid bridging force for microparts are shown in this presentation. Measurement results of liquid bridging force are also described.

It is generally known that there are variations of the resistance to chipping among mono-crystal diamond cutting tools. The occurrence of chipping is assumed to closely relate to the extension of cracks caused by the mechanical polishing. Therefore, the extension of crack in diamond has been simulated by the molecular dynamics (MD) method. The results showed that the crack extension was affected by the nitrogen impurity called platelet in raw diamond.

This study aims to clarify the interaction between Si wafer and individual abrasive grains in an atomic level. This paper reports on the proposal of the molecular dynamics simulation in Si wafer grinding/polishing with the control of the interatomic potential parameters to consider the chemo-mechanical and mechano-chemical effects between an abrasive and a Si wafer. Some comparisons between the diamond grinding and the chemo-mechanical polishing and mechano-chemical grinding were performed using the present model. As a result, it was clarified that the necessity of improvement in proposed chemo-mechanical polishing model and the availability in proposed mechano-chemical grinding model.

A fly cutting allows the glass to be cut 10 times more in depth than turning in ductile-mode. In this research, soda lime glass work pieces were processed by fly cutting with an ultra-precision lathe and influence of the surface by the tool materials (carbide tool (K10) and binder less cBN) were investigated. As a result, the difference in surface roughness, the changing of surface roughness according to cutting distance, and the crack ratio was observed.

Microlens arrays are used in various optical communication devices and imaging devices. A fast tool control (FTC) unit-based diamond turning process is used for fabrication of micro lens arrays. To apply the FTC-based diamond turning for fabrication of large area and high quality microlens array, monitoring of the long time fabrication process is very important because the process is influenced by a lot of factors such as tool damage, tool wear, etc. The generated force at the interface between the tool and the workpiece surface is the best parameter to reflect the fabrication process. This paper describes a FTC-unit integrated with a force sensor, which is designed for in-process measuring the cutting force. Experimental results of in-process cutting force measurement are reported.

We proposed the imaging type 2-D Fourier spectroscopy that is the phase-shift interferometry between the objective lights. The proposed method can measure the 2-D spectral image only on the focal plane. We construct the proposed method by the infrared optical system to try to apply for the componential analysis of foreign particle and the noninvasive measurement of bio membrane. In this report, we overview the three research projects, the removal technology of foreign particle for the flat panel display, the spectral tomography of living single-cells and the prevention and early diagnosis measurement using light harmless to humans.

Three dimensional measurements are attractive and desired techniques for various fields. In this paper, we demonstrate all fiber three dimensional measurement system with incoherent Michelson interferometer at eye safe wavelength of 1.55 m. The sensitivity and axial resolution are as high as 102 dB and 1.4 m from a few meter long distance, respectively. Moreover, this measurement system has achieved to measure the tilted metallic surfaces from 500 mm long distance.

A phase-shifting point diffraction interferometer (PS/PDI) with two optical fibers is appropriate for absolute surface figure measurement for large aperture optics. The point light source for the measurement wavefront is set at a position other than the center of curvature of the test mirror. The reflected wavefront by the mirror focuses at another position. The measurement wavefront curves itself owing to difference between the positions of the point light source and the focusing point. Measurement result of the figure of the test mirror contains the curved distortion. The error has been studied using computer simulation. We present the way to eliminate the error.

We study about the multi degrees of freedom control technology of floating type micro probe that is manipulated by the optical pressure. In this report, we discuss about the analysis method of viscous force and elastic force. The control model of the micro probe in nutrient medium is greatly affected by the fluid resistance. So, we construct the dynamical model that considers about the viscous force by the biological cells and the fluid force by the nutrient medium. And these forces are separately calculated from the measured vibration frequency and the measured amplitude. And we mention about the new function of the floating probe to dose the cell locally. To inject the medicine from the micro floating probe without contact, we apply the photo-acoustic effect that is induced by the nano-second pulse laser. This shock-induced elastic wave can form the droplet like the conventional ink jet printer.

New observation method for contact state of solid surface is proposed, which is based on the total internal reflection of prism. The contact area is enlarged by elastic layer between the prism and the test surface. Silicone rubber or PET film is used as the sheet. Depth distribution of the surface is estimated from the observed contact pattern. The depth rang from several micrometer to above a hundred micrometer is adjusted by the sheet thickness or applied load.
