In this study, orthogonal intermittent cutting test for aluminum alloy was conducted under dry condition, and friction properties of tool rake face were evaluated for DLC coated tool and non-coated carbide tool. The initial friction coefficients of tool rake face were around 0.8 for both DLC coated tool and non-coated carbide tool. However, as increasing cutting distance, the friction coefficient of DLC coated tool remarkably decreased to a lower value of 0.3, even though that of non-coated carbide tool was maintained the higher value.

The soluble or non-soluble grinding fluids are provided on grinding point. In previous study, effects of ultrasonic excited grinding fluid was experimentally investigated and effects on grinding force reduction and surface integrity improvement were confirmed. In this study, influence of ultrasonic excited fluid on grinding phenomenon was investigated. At result, it was confirmed that vibration of grinding wheel is reduced.

Ultrasonic assisted grinding (UAG) experiments were carried out to evaluate the effects of the ultrasonic vibration on the conventional creep feed grinding of the nickel based alloy of Rene77. In experiments, an electroforming grinding wheel with cubic boron nitride (CBN) grains was ultrasonically vibrated along its axial direction. The results indicated that the normal and tangential grinding forces were reduced significantly and the surface roughness (Ra) of the ground slots was decreased when the ultrasonic vibration was utilized in the grinding process. The SEM micrographs revealed that the scale-shape grinding traces and the fracture disappeared with UAG

The present work deals with the experimental investigation of ultrasonic assisted scratching (UAS) tests of SiC ceramics with single diamond tool in order to reveal the material removal mechanism in ultrasonic assisted internal grinding of SiC ceramics. The experiment results show that the machining force in UAS varies periodically, and the mean value of the force is smaller than that in conventional scratching process without ultrasonic vibration. The profile of scratching trace indicates that the scratching path appears to be sinusoidal when ultrasonic vibration is applied. It is probably attributed to the impact effects of the tool generated in UAS process.

Abrasive water jet machining is used widely these days. But, there are few study cases that water including abrasive grains is jetted by high pressure and modulated by external force. So, the influence of modulated jet on the roughness of surface of a workpiece is uncertain. Then, we put piezoelectric actuator in flow path. When the applied voltage pulse are send the actuator, large-amplitude ripples generate on the water jet stream, and finally it becomes linear stream of droplets. In this study, we report experimental result of making the jet ripple affects polished surface how.

This study propose a new plane magnetic abrasive finishing process to improve the surface accuracy. In conventional plane magnetic abrasive finishing process, the magnetic particles are easy to cohesion, which hampers the realization of ultra-precision processing. Therefore, a new plane magnetic abrasive finishing process by the use of varying magnetic field has been proposed in this paper. Through the design of a new set of experimental device, the up and down movements are generated in the varying magnetic field by magnetic particles, thereby processing the workpieces. The movement changes of magnetic particles in water-soluble grinding fluid and oily grinding fluid have been observed and the finishing force has been measured. Further, C2801 brass plate surface has been polished by using the new plane magnetic abrasive finishing process, and the feasibility of this new method has been proved by the experimental results. The workpiece surface quality can be improved by this method.

Knowledge of the forces distribution is essential to understand the material removal mechanism of MCF polishing process. The accumulated polishing forces are measured by moving the MCF slurry along its diameter direction with a certain step and the distributions of the pressure and shear force during MCF polishing are calculated. The closer to the center of MCF slurry, the larger the pressure is. The maximum shear force is generated at the position of about 5mm from the center of MCF slurry. The relationship between forces distribution and material removal is studied and a material removal model is proposed.

Thrust force and torque detected in drilling process are converted to equivalent thrust force and principal force in this paper and, the static and dynamic component parameters of their resultant force are defined to evaluate the instability. Experiments with different conditions, work piece material, hole depth and wear, have been conducted and relations between the conditions and the parameters are discussed.

Recently, the requirement for micro-hole machining is increasing, such as a fuel injection nozzle for cars, a nozzle for chemical-analysis machines, and a through hole of printed circuit board. Although the drilling mechanism has been studied, the centripetal action in micro-drilling has not been examined completely. Therefore, Relationship between the centripetal action and the orientation of the drill using a simulation software has been studied. As a result, it became clear that the difference in the moving resistance related to the drill orientation affects the centripetal action.

he present study aims to measure small-size holes with diameters of 17- 24 mm and depth of 1,000 mm. The system consists of a laser interferometer to detect hole accuracy, a probe connected to a measurement bar and an optical apparatus to detect probe attitude (position and inclination). The probe is supported by skids. The probe position at the skids is continuously detected by the optical apparatus and compensated from the data acquired by the laser interferometer. In this study, the system was improved, and performance test was carried out. Experimental results show that deep hole with a diameter of 17.5 mm and length 425 mm can be measured using the system. Measurement accuracy is 0.01 mm

Ellipsoidal mirror is one of the most ideal focusing optics which has many advantages such as large aperture, long focal length, and no chromatic aberration. However, ellipsoidal mirror cannot show its great focusing ability sufficiently because the divergence angle of X-ray is very small. In order to solve this problem, we propose new optical system with spheroidal mirror and nearly flat mirror. This paper reports design method and results of ray tracing and wave optical simulation. We believe that this optical system will play important role in next generation soft X-ray beamline.
