  • Differences in Student Reflection Content in Evaluation Practice That Mixed Facility and Online:
    Using Quantitative Text Analysis

    Objective: To investigate the characteristics of students’ reflections at the end of their second year of clinical practice in the Department of Physical Therapy, including those who practiced only at a facility or on campus and those who transitioned to on-campus practice midway through the year.

    Methods: A total of 41 students participated in a four-week evaluation practice that was conducted on campus. It consisted of an online evaluation and problem-solving learning based on information that was provided by collaborators in cooperation with patients. Using quantitative text analysis, we compared the characteristics of “growth points” and “future issues.”

    Results: The main growth points for the students who had practiced at a facility were related to examinations and evaluations, whereas those for the students who had practiced on campus were related to medical interviewing and hospitality. The primary future issues item for all groups was “knowledge.” However, only the students who had practiced at a facility already possessed detailed knowledge.

    Conclusion: This study showed that students with on-campus practice developed skills in hospitality and medical interviewing. However, they lacked detailed knowledge and considered this a future issue.
