Objective: To elucidate the association between health-related Quality of Life (QOL) and illness perception among patients with stroke admitted to convalescent rehabilitation wards.
Methods: We included consecutive patients aged 18 years or older with a stroke diagnosis and who were discharged from the convalescent rehabilitation ward from March 14, 2022, to March 31, 2023. To investigate the relationship between QOL values assessed by EuroQol 5 Dimension 3 Level and the evaluation of illness perception using the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire (B-IPQ), we used linear regression analysis, with QOL values as the dependent variable.
Results: The study enrolled 95 participants with an average age of 68.7±11.7 years; 54.7% being men. The B-IPQ was 44.5±13.6 points, and the QOL value was 0.6±0.2 points. The linear regression analysis revealed that B-IPQ (partial regression coefficient: −0.005, 95% CI: −0.007 to −0.002) was independently associated with the QOL values.
Conclusion: Illness perception is linked to health-related QOL in patients with stroke in the convalescent rehabilitation ward.
