Debris flows, landslides, and landslips have, in recent years, accounted for an increasing share (in terms of deaths and injuries) of natural disasters.
One method of protecting life and property from disasters of this kind which has been considered involves using radar rain gauges to track the movement of rainfall areas and the development of rain clouds and forecast rainfall to increase the accuracy of landslide warnings and evacuation measures. Up till now, however, few studies of sediment-related disasters have been carried out. This study examines the application of a sediment-related disaster advance warning system using radar rainfall gauges.
