In the study on the application to emulsion adhesives of styrene-butadiene block copolymer (SBS-g-MMA) graft-modified by methyl methacrylate, the effect of tackifiers was investigated on various properties. The tackifiers compatibled with butadiene phase and with both phases of butadiene and styrene were found to be advantage for these emulsions. Peel strength and mechanical properties of film were improved by compounding of a tackifier (about 10wt%). The most suitable emulsions were perpared by the technique as follows; a tackifier was added in the graft polymerized solution, and then its solution was emulsified. The time to be able to bond at normal temperature after applying of these emulsions was increased by compounding of tackifiers. The peel strength with these emulsions by aging at 60°C for 7 days was maintained 60% for the bond of cotton fabric to plasticized poly (vinyl chloride). It was confirmed that the film formability of SBS-g-MMA emulsions was improved by blending of some commercial latexes, and that these emulsions were effective as a modifier of those latexes.
