Covalent bonds with the ability to reach an equilibrium state between cleavage and formation under certain conditions have been studied, and systematic method for controlling the structures of compounds and polymers based on these reversible and exchangeable covalent bonds has been spotlighted as dynamic covalent chemistry. In the present review, various types of “reactive” soft materials based on dynamic covalent chemistry are described. Exchange reactions of alkoxyamines, olefins, disulfides, and diarylbibenzofuranones derivatives were employed. The reactive soft materials based on these exchangeable units were prepared and their reorganizability was systematically shown.

Tire and automobile parts such as fuel hose, rubber packing and timing belt etc. are made of rubber vulcanizates, the improvement of aging resistance of diene rubber vulcanizates is very important theme because of their poor resistance for heat aging and ozone cracking.
This paper reviews the characteristic of various curing system including conventional cure, EV cure, sulfurless cure and soluble cure, and reports the improvement method for both heat aging resistance and fatigue life of natural rubber vulcanizate using vulcanizing agent. The better aging resistance of the natural rubber vulcanizate obtained by soluble cure system can be attributed the low concentration of the polysulfidic crosslink and the better dispersion of sulfur crosslink in the vulcanizate.

This paper is concerned with the discussion on the characterization of carbon-gel developed in the carbon black filled rubber systems. A limit of NMR method for the characterization was also discussed. There exists less mobile rubber molecules and highly mobile ones in the carbon-gel. The less mobile rubber molecules cannot be removed by the good solvent for rubber and they contribute to the reinforcement. The highly mobile ones can be extracted by the good solvent depending on molecular weight of rubber and conditions for the extraction. Therefore, the reinforcement of filled rubber systems cannot be simply related with the content of carbon-gel.
