The correspondence between the waveform distortion of the modulated sine-squared pulse and the characteristics of transmission line is studied.
By the analysis of the waveform response for a variety of combinations of amplitude and delay characteristics of transmission line, it is indicated that there are certain types of transmission characteristics for which the conventional monographs do not give accurate measurement.
A new method to measure the chrominance distortion accurately even on the above conditions, by separating the pulse into luminance and chrominance components, is proposed and tested with good results.

The authors have developed the ABO (Automatic Beam-current Optimizer) system to be employed in television cameras to prevent the undesirable effects of comet-tail and blooming which are characteristics of the photoconductive type picup tubes.
This paper presents the fundamental control characteristics of the ABO system in which the G1 electrode of the picup tube is controlled by the equivalent return beam current. This process maintains the return beam current constant over the wide range of incident light level.
A novel method of monitoring the control characteristics on the CRT screen is also introduced.
As much as 16 times improvement in dynamic range can be obtained by the ABO system, and since the ABO system has become available in integrated circuit module, it is applied now not only in studio color cameras but also in small sized portable color cameras.
