The characteristics of two closely located Yagi FM/TV receiving antennas have been investigated in the VHF band. A five element FM antenna and an eight element TV antenna were chosen. The method of moments was used to evaluate the mutual coupling effects on these antennas with various arrangements and spacings. The bounds of the performance change for one antenna were obtained due to the impedance variation in the FM/TV receiver connected to the other antenna.
When the FM and TV antennas were vertically stacked with only a close distance separating them, the FM antenna was not much affected by the TV antenna, but the TV antenna characteristics at the lower channels changed considerably. The antennas should be separated by at least 2.5 meters. When two TV antennas were put side by side, the mutual coupling effects were the least. The two antennas could be put 1.5 meter apart without a significant change in their performance.
