The uniformity oy three representative uniform color spaces (U

*) recommended by CIE was examined.
Color variations were subjectively evaluated by the rating method. The Kruskal methods of non-metrical multidimensional scaling was then used to convert these data to interval scales which were then converted to ratio scales.
Using these results, the distribution of color variations which give subjectively equal color differences in color spaces, were obtained.
The six measures of total uniformity, local uniformity, global uniformity, intra-axis uniformity, inter-axis uniformity and directional uniformity were introduced.
The uniformity in color spaces mentioned above was examined using these measures, and ways of improving the uniformity in color spaces were investigated.
