In EDTV-II, a letterbox format is used for wide-aspect 16 : 9. Vertical-Temporal (VT) and Vertical High (VH) helper signals are transmitted in the top and bottom black bars of the 4 : 3 transmitted signals. This paper proposes a multiplexing scheme for the VT and VH. Both signals must be separated on EDTV-II receivers without significant crosstalk and the bars on current receivers should not annoy viewers. In the proposed scheme, both signals are multiplexed on different spaces in the vertical-temporal frequency domain, thus they can be perfectly separated on the receiving side. The multiplexed signals are modulated horizontally using
fsc (color sub-carrier) to avoid synchronization error in the receivers. Subjective assessment tests have clarified that this scheme is the most appropriate from the viewpoint of impairment to current receivers.

To improve the picture quality of single-chip CCD color video cameras with line-sequential color difference signal systems, a new method of vertical false-color-signal reduction is proposed that uses the correlation of the ratio between color difference signals and luminance signals in a localized picture area and reduces the vertical false-color-signal Generally, the optical low-pass-filter is used to reduce the horizontal false-color-signal, however it is not useful to reduce the vertical false-color-signal because adequate vertical resolution cannot be obtained. Our method can reduce the vertical false-color-signal without the optical low-pass-filter Computer simulation is used to examine and verify the fundamental functions of our method It is also used to examine such things as the number of lines required for interpolation processing and to optimize operational precision.

A reverse-swing type electron gun has been developed for use in an Automatic Beam Optimizer (ABO) system. The ABO was designed to discharge highlighted parts on a target. However, if the standard-type ABO system employs an RS type electron gun, the ABO circuit becomes a positive feedback loop giving rise to oscillation. Thus was the actual cause investigated of this oscillation in prior art systems, and measures have been developed for eliminating these defects. This paper presents the fundamental contorol characteristics of this new ABO system.

The KLT is known as the optimum orthogonal transform of signals, and has been generalized to develop the optimum skew linear transform that minimizes the mean error of a positive quadratic form of the transformed signals
1) 2) .
This paper proposes a recursive method for obtaining the optimum discrete orthogonal transform for the quadratic form of signals where the bases vectors are restricted to orthogonal ones. The necessary conditions are shown which iteratively apply both the optimum skew linear transform of the quadratic form and its newly developed conjugate transform. In order to search for the transform of the optimum energy packing efficiency in a binary tree structure constructed by solutions of the conditions, a branch pruning method is proposed. The performance of the transform is numerically compared with various conventional transforms. It is shown that the proposed method can effectively determine the optimum orthogonal transform for a wide variety of signals and of matrices of quadratic forms.
