Video signals from an NTSC television camera shows flicker in the presence of 50 Hz gas discharge fluorescent lamps. Equipment for eliminating this flicker has been developed. No additional input signal is needed except for the video signal affected by the flicker. The flicker component is detected in the video signal and the flicker is cancelled out using this component.
The elimination ratio is high, and even moving pictures suffer no sub-sidiary impairment due to the flicker elimination.
A prototype of the flicker eliminator has been used in broadcasting and has been shown to have good performance characteristics.
