In order to elucidate the effect of hypoxia and lipopolysaccaride (LPS) in sinus effusion, which can be gotten rid of by YAMIK clinically, on the prouction of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and chemokines, the culture study using fibloblasts from human nasal polyp was achieved. This culture study revealed that VEGF was hyperproducted under hypoxic condition, and chemokines of RANTES and IL 8 were hyperproducted by the stimulation of LPS (
H. influenzae, non typable). Eotaxin was not detected by ELISA in any condition, and detected by RT-PCR. In sinusitis cases, angiogenesis, vascular permeability and accumulation of inflammatory cells are thought to be increased in sinus mucosa by hyperproducted VEGF and chemokines by the stimulation of hypoxia and LPS. YAMIK seems to be an effective therapy for sinusitis cases by recovery from hypoxia and removing LPS in sinus effusion by the mechanism of ventilation and drainage, respectively.
