Free water content cf snow changes its vertical distribution in snow covers as melt water infiltrates into them. Two diagrams are presented which show the above change by curves of the same water content; the ordinate and the abscissa are respectively time and height above the ground. As seen from the diagrams, melt water is arrested at some levels in snow covers and stays there for a long time. The author explained this phenomenon by assigning a “curvature band” to each of the snow layers composing snow covers.
