Several species of cercariae parasitic in
Katayama nosophora Robson, an intermediate snail host of
Schistosoma japonicum in Japan, had been reported by several Japanese workers. Among them, two species of xiphidiocercariae are the most common except the cercaria of
S. japonicum. In the course of my study on schistosomiasis for the past years, many cercariae of these two species are obtained from Yamanashi Prefecture and Prefectures in Kyushu. These were denominated by me as
Cercaria okabei and
C. takahashi,
1, 2) dedicating to the first reporters of these cercariae, Dr. K. Okabe, and Dr. S. Takahashi. Shibue (1952
1) , one of the assistants of Dr. Okabe, recenty completed the life cycle of
Cercaria takahashii and proved to develop to
Maritrema caridinae. The name,
Cercaria takahashii is, therefore, the larval name of
Maritrerna caridinae Yamaguti et Nishigori. The following is the redescription of these two cercariae.
