     3. The Concept of the School
     If the term ‘school’ is defined as a place where instructors teach students in buildings or on grounds, can such institutions or facilities as colleges and universities, or private schools and motor schools be also included in the same category? Today, most universities and colleges are profesional schools or liberal arts colleges, and the latter schools are educational facilities, in reality. The concept of the school has a structure like the earth. Elementary and Secondary schools that are commonly experienced are at the core, higher educational institutions and kindergartens, next to it, and miscellaneous schools, on the outerside.
     4. The Types of Schools
     In Japan there are four types of schools legally; elementary and secondary schools are the first, colleges, universities, higher vocational schools and kindergartens are the second, accredited also miscellaneous schools are the third, and other non-accredited schools are the last. We can divide schools into three groupes by the educational steps; the elementary, the secondary and the higher. We can also part the schools of the masses from those of the elite, and those of geneal education from those for the vocation or the profession.
     The school library, that is one of the instructive libraries, has many types, then. Each of them has its peculiar problems. We must inquire into them and research what part of instruction the school libraries can play.
