     Researches on college textbooks are reviewed and discussed. Topics included are: their functions in the communication of knowledge; how topics are treated there; accuracy in description; time-lag between the publication of original articles and the inclusion of its contents into textbooks; their effectiveness as seen from the educational point of view and alternative media; their publishing process; and their position in libraries. Scarcity of works on textbooks is pointed out and future directions of research are suggested.

     Charles Brown's centribution to our country is to establish the branch library system among central governments. This system is hitted upon the idea based on his achievements of Iowa state university, which are to build the leading collection in technology in America, to establish central libray system in Iowa state university and to promote use of these collection by a program of library instruction.
     However his greatest cenribution's to our country is to spread the A. L. A. spirit in the branch libray system, which is the best reading for the greatest number, at the least cost”.
