Mitsubishi Heavy Industies, Ltd. developed high-efficient, high-reliable and compact, ‘Marine Gas Turbine MFT 8’ for Goverment sponsored project ‘Techno Super Liner’ which is getting much attention as Marine Super Express. As a result we succeeded Sea Trial in '94 and real transportation test including night operation in '95 by using a experimental ship ‘TSL-A70’ which were developed by Mitsubishi and Mitsui. This paper reports these results and the future of Marine Gas Turbine.

Spectroscopic analysis of combustion flames is effective to elucidate the diesel combustion phenomena. The authors operated a DI engine generating a secondary injection, with various injection volumes and ignition timings, and detected diesel flame spectra by inserting of a heatresisting optical fiber into the combustion chamber. As the result, they made clear the influence of the secondary injection on the diesel combustion. Further, they confirmed the existence of band spectra emitted from OH-radical, H2O, and some substances in the infrared ranges, and made partially clear the relation of the behavior of band spectra with the combustion phenomena.

Small-capacity generators are demand for electric sources in portable sources driven by engines. Therefore, the construction of the generator required simple and robust. It is desirable to make synchronous generators brushless from the viewpoints of easy maintenance and high reliability. Permanent-magnet generators are brushless type, there is an obvious advantage in the use of permanent-magnet, in that the field winding and d. c. supply source are not required
In PM generators, the voltage regulations become large in their over load conditions, because the magnet field cannot be controlled. It is preferable that the voltage regulation of generators has a small numerical value. The purpose of the subjective study is to decrease the voltage regulation of the PM genarator. This paper presents a demonstration of the PM genarator with capacitors.
The armature winding of the PM generator flows lead current because of its capacitors. Then, the armature reaction of the PM generator has magnetization effect because of its capacitors. Therefore, the voltage regulation of the PM generator is small value due to the capacitors. The load characteristics are calculated using an equivalent circuit of the PM generator with capacitors. The analysis has been extended to cover the efect of various parameters on the generator characteristics. The PM generator with capacitors has a voltage compensation function. The aim of research is to provide some outlines for design.

Marine gas turbines are prevailing on high speed vessel market lately based on its lightweight, compact and noiseless. However for real prevailing with diesel, fuel and efficiency are big obstacles. In case of fuel, environmental problem promote not to use the residual fuel. And it was verified that it was easy to get the distillate for gas turbine in Japan by TSL test. On the other hand the combined cycle is verified to be the best selection and much higher efficiency than diesel.
