Several new applications of saturable reactors (SR) for the switching element of heavy current systems are decribed. It is demonstrated that a SR can be used as a decoupling element among the different power source which are mutually connected to one load coil. In case the decoupled power source is discharged into a load coil successively, stepped current waveform is obtained. Using this techniques, successive non-adiabatic compression of plasmas will be realized. Using the current rectification propaty of SR, a crowbar switch without heavy current contact point can be designed by the aid of usual gap type crowbar switch. The final proposal is to use SR for transfer switch of inductive storage system. An example of the 2000 MW out put system is described.
A new power crowbar circuit is described. Additional capacitors, together with a current transformer, are inserted in series with a load coil. Small current ripples are expected.
