The present status of development of ICRF antenna for heating and current drive in fusion devices is reviewed, aiming at clarifying technical subjects remained for further development toward fusion experimental reactor, i.e.ITER.Technical problems and their solutions are described for the use of the loop antenna in large tokamaks.Technical issues peculiar to the current drive antenna are discussed.Recent results on research of impurity problem during ICRF power injection are presented which clarify the mechanism of impurity release and possible countermeasures to overcome this problem totally.

Experimental studies on various types of nonlinear wave phenomena in ion-beam-plasma systems are reviewed. The phenomena include effects of ion-beams on solitons, excitation of multimode solitons, amplitude oscillations, frequency shifts, decay and explosive instabilities and the self-modulation of waves due to modulational instability.

Tokamak D-T power reactor with day-long operation is investigated, where plasma current is driven inductively.Thereby the high power multiplication factor (typically Q>1, 000) is attained easily. For day-long operation only with the use of inductive current drive, the large plasma major radius is necessary to provide sufficient magnetic flux in the Ohmic transformer.Parameters of tokamak reactor for day-long operation are typically major radius 12m, minor radius 1.5m with elongation ratio1.6 and triangularity0.5, toroidal mag netic field12.5T, and plasma current 8.7MA.Plasma volume is comparable to the current-driven reactors, such as SSTR and ARIES in spite of large major radius, because the aspect ratio is relatively high.

An offset linear scaling for the H-mode confinement time is examined based on single parameter scans on the JFT-2M experiment.Regression study is done for various devices with open divertor configuration such as JET, D III-D, JFT-2M.The scaling law of the thermal energy is given in the MKSA unit as

where R is the major radius, Ip is the plasma current, BT is the toroidal magnetic field, A is the average mass number of plasma and neutral beam particles, and P is the heating power, This fitting has a similar root mean square error (RMSE) compared to the power law scaling. The result is also compared with the H-mode in other configurations. The W th of closed divertor Hmode on ASDEX shows a little better values than that of open divertor H-mode
