The main purpose of this article is to introduce as simply as possible the current topics concerned with the Alfvén waves ; new MHD surface waves, other eigenmodes, and the Alfven resonance. These play an important role for heating plasma by applying an rf field of ion cyclotron range of frequency to a plasma column.
Plasma diagnostic methods by means of particles ejected and / or injected are extensively presented. After introduction of basic and important atomic processes concerned, a variety of diagnostic techniques are discussed, over fast neutral energy analysis, neutral probe emission particle detection, traveling heavy ion orbit / energy analysis, fast neutral probe spectroscopy and laser-aided particle probe spectroscopy.
The design, fabrication and associated technical problems in producing the “BIG DEE” Tokamak vacuum vessel for GA Technologies of San Diego, USA, fabricated by Toshiba Corp., are to be presented. The vacuum vessel design and fabrication was very unique. The vessel has “DEE” shaped cross section and thin shell structure. The material used for the vessel was Inconel 625.
