ジャーナル フリーHand-held colorimeter enjoys a wide variety of use and is applied for various kinds of color science and engineering, especially drawing a great deal of attention for advanced inspection of color quality control sustained by a big potential. This paper deals with the recent progress of market demand on essential problem to down-size hand-held colorimeter and the author has listed the specifications for each of hand-held colorimeters commercially available. ジャーナル フリーThere are many image transformation steps, between taking a photograph of an object and printing it on paper. I inspect these steps from the colorimetrical point of view. Some steps are colorimetrically insufficient because of the theoretical reason. In these steps, “favorite image” can be made by experts based on experience. But it is the colorimetrically sufficient step to read film by image scanner using the information of individual color film. ジャーナル フリーIn order to interchange documents, search documents and distribute documents as CD-ROM, it is necessary to make a database by structuring documents based on the contents. Standard Generalized Mark-up Language (SGML: ISO8879) is an international standard for processing and interchanging document by strictly describing document as a database. We have made a journal of treatise for the first time in Japan, using SGML. ジャーナル フリーThis paper describes a structure analysis method of character regions on the backbone of a book extracted from a bookshelf image by the image processing method previously proposed by the authors. This analysis method consists of two processes. In one process, character string regions are made from extracted character regions by the use of size and position of circumscribed rectangles of the characters. In the other one, the character strings are classified into several categories such as title of a book, author's name and so on, by a 4-layered neural network whose input patterns are geometrical features of the character strings. Correct recognition ratio for 497 regions of 115 books was 89.5 percents in the region recognition experiments. ジャーナル フリーThis paper describes an image processing method to detect defects on the surface of silk screen printed plates which are plane plastics products. The final inspection of printed plates is always executed by human, and it has several problems such as oversights of defects, a long time laborious work and so on. The proposed method is developed for reduction of labor and automatic inspection. After inputting photographs of printed plates to a computer, the following processes are executed in this order; edge enhancement, position normalization, template matching and extraction of potential regions for surface defects. To attain the preferred color reproduction is, however, not easy since the preferred color is dependent on many factors. ジャーナル フリーFonts for printing are available in either analog or digital form. Analog fonts mean to use conventional optical methods to scale the fonts, while digital fonts to use computers to handle them. Digital fonts have many advantages in computerized pre-press systems since all fonts are stored in computers. Recent development of computer software to create digital fonts has facilitated the development of a number of digital Kanji fonts. It unburdened font developers from time-consuming tasks, and accelerated the move toward integrating characters and digital images. There are many characters each of which is expressed by fonts in various shapes with subtle differences. These shapes in each Kanji font have a long history behind them, and can not be easily disregarded.
