Flood is a common feature in rapidly urbanizing Dhaka city and its surrounding areas. In this research, evaluation of flood risk of Greater Dhaka in Bangladesh has been developed by using an integrated approach of GIS and remote sensing. The objective of the study is to evaluation of flooding risk based on the satellite data and geomorphological land classification map under the land use/ land cover change from 1995 to 2015 related with the urbanization of Dhaka city. Consideration of each landform, land cover unit and based on the calculation of historical rainfall data the flooding return period has been investigated. Among the various landform units, terrace, natural levee and back swamp has been divided into three sub categories. Especially the built-up zone which is closer to the river channel, former river course and the back swamps are mostly vulnerable to flood inundation. This study revealed that, a big portion of Greater Dhaka district within moderate to very high hazard zone, especially surrounding city like Manikganj Sadar Upazila areas. It is expected that, this study could contribute to effective flood forecasting, relief and emergency management for future flood event.

There are a lot of studies related to sustainable tourism (include ecotourism, green tourism and rural tourism) in Japan. Many of these studies are focused on natural environment, however, to maintain the rural environments such as secondary forests and farmlands, human workforces are needed. Due to the depopulation in rural Japan, internal migrant workers from urban areas are also important.

Social ecological systems are Complex Dynamic Systems (CAS) that involve constant change in their natural and human elements. But so far, the role of various abiotic factors and their scales has been largely overlooked in SES studies. Disturbance on the abiotic environment is increasingly affecting the biotic environment. Especially for spatially large SES fragmentation of the abiotic landscape is a big challenge. This presentation examines the link between abiotic factors and mechanisms in World Heritage Sites, points out that in tourism governance research integrity of abiotic components is rarely analyzed, and argues about sustainable tourism based governance of such landscapes.

This presentation examines the development of Japanese chicken meat commodity chains by focusing on the evolving connections between production and consumption. In order to industrialize, the Japanese poultry industry had to overcome the barriers of a deficit in feed production and a lack of consumer demand. Following World War II, Japan began to import grain from America which facilitated the industrialization of livestock industries including poultry. In particular, this paper examines the role of Kentucky Fried Chicken Japan which helped promote broiler chicken meat to the broader population in addition to being a major source of chicken consumption.

Catastrophic avalanches occurred in Langtang Himal triggered by Nepal Gurkha Earthquake in 2015 of which scale was Mw 7.8. Rock avalanches of almost 1 million cubic meters occurred about one month after the main shock, comparing satellite images and oblique aerial photographs taken on 4th, 24th, 25th, and on 28th May. However, the detritus on the hanging glacier was covered by avalanches and was partly swept away by the avalanches on 1st June. The hanging glacier was again covered by rock avalanches in the middle November. It suggests that collapse of the wall and glacier have continued after the earthquake.

It is increasingly being important to identify and understand pathways for conservation and management of marine resources. While marine resources are fast being degraded all over the world, efforts to analyze them for well-being of ecosystems are still lacking. One viable solution is local management practices. However, these practices face different challenges both internally as well as externally, making management of ecosystems a complex task. This paper looks at three examples of such management practices from the Seto Inland Sea of Japan -the Himeshima fisheries, Nakatsu tidal flat and Hinase seagrass ecosystem -and analyses them from an ecosystem services approach.
