To obtain suggestions for improving teacher education and training for the future, we conducted a
survey to understand trends in home economics practices related to the SDGs, and interviewed home
economics teachers. The following findings were obtained:
The affinity between the SDGs and home economics education was high, and the number of home
economics education practices related to the SDGs has been increasing since 2021. Teachers engaged
in such practices were characterized by the fact that their work environment functioned as a place for
learning, and they valued informal settings such as family life.
These findings suggest the importance of valuing the attitude of continuous learning and informal
places in teacher education and training.
