With the 16 strains of lemon-grass used in the previous studies, the differences among the strains chiefly in the oil content of the fresh stems and the citral content of the stem oil were investigated in 1956 and 1958, and further studies on the classification of the strains were made from these respects. Results obtained are summarized as follows:
    1) The strain of No. 14 which has been classfied as Group I was fairly clearly distinguished from the other 15 strains also in the oil and citral contents of the fresh stems. Moreover, it was distinguished remarkably from the others by its deep yellow colour and characteristic odour of the stem oil.
    2) The 5 strains of No. 2, 6, 7, 10, and 11 which have been classified as Group II were clearly divided from the other strains by their highest oil content of the fresh stems. However, the differences within the Group was not clear at the point of the oil content of the fresh stems.
These 5 strains were also clearly distinguishable from the most of the other strains by their relatively higher citral content of the stem oil. On the other hand, only No. 2 strain was found to be remarkably higher than the other strains in this Group regarding the citral content of the stem oil, though the differences among the rest 4 strains were not clear. Consequently, this Group seems to be further divided into 2 groups.
    3) The 4 strains of No. 3, 9, 12, and 13 which have been classified as Group III represented approximate values to those of the 4 strains of No. 4, 5, 8, and 15 belonged to Group IV in the oil content of the fresh stems, and to those of the 3 strains of No. 4, 8, and 15 in the citral content of the stem oil, respectively. However, the 4 strains of Group III were clearly distin guished from the other strains except those mentioned above in both the oil content of the stems and the citral content of the oil. On the otherhand, the differences within this Group were hardly recognized regarding not only the oil content of the stems but also the citral content of the oil. Accordingly, this Group may not be sub-divided as yet.
    4) Among the 6 strains of No. 1, 4, 5, 8, 15, and 16 which have been classified together as Group IV, the 2 strains of No. 1 and 16 appeared to be distinguished from the rest 4 strains by their relatively higher oil content of the stems, and further the former 2 strains were clearly distinguished from the latters by their strikingly higher citral content of the stem oil. On the other hand, the 2 strains of No. 1 and 16 were found to differ each other at the point of the citral content of the stem oil, the former being considerably higher. Among the rest 4 strains of No. 4, 5, 8, and 15, only No. 5 strain was clearly separated from the other 3 strains by its considerably higher citral content of the stem oil, though the differences were hardly recognized among the former and the latters regarding the oil content of the fresh stems. The differences among the last 3 strains of No. 4, 8, and 15 were not clear in both the oil content of the stems and the citral content of the oil. Therefore, this Group will be probably sub-divided into 4 classes in detail.
