1, Papaya is mostly protected and cultivated in greenhouse in Japan. Attempts have been made to grow it in open field of warmer region of this country. The present paper deals with such a test with special reference to its wintering shoots.
2. Number of days required for onset of flowering was smaller when sown or planted earlier. Male plant reached earlier to the flowering than in that of female, and this tendency was remarkable in early planted materials.
3. Number of fruits per tree was 15 at largest, and weight of a fruit was 350 grams at harvest. It was hard to get full ripening before arival of frosting season. Particulary adequate procedures for the purpose remain to be seen.
4. Segregation of fruit shapes was found as well as abnormality in growing feature. Sex ratio of female to male was 179 : 181, viz., almost 1: 1
5. Some devices were made on the dwarf cultivation and wintering of papaya.
