Manufacturing conditions and physical measurements corresponding to subjective characteristics “fuai” or “koshi” of textiles, are examined. Procedure: Analysis of variance, principal component analysis, and multidimensional scaling were applied to the relation between ratings on “fuai” or “koshi” and eight manufacturing conditions, fourteen physical measurements, and twelve subjective evaluations. Twenty-seven samples were used. Ss were 20 experts, 60 ordinary adults, and 100 female students. Results: (1) Materials, threads/inch, yarn count, color, and pattern of weaving significantly contribute to “fuai”. (2) Principal component analysis yield four major factors, namely, “koshi”, crease resistance, evaluation, and resilience. (3)“Koshi” can be substituted by flexural rigidity, or stiffness. “Fuai” cannot be substituted by any of the physical measurements or subjective evaluations.

Three experiments were so designed to examine the effects of leader's modes of interpersonal cognition upon the appropriateness of his role-taking and upon the group-performance. In Experiment I the validity of Fiedler's ASo-Contingency Model was generally supported. In Experiment II & III we elaborated two more indices-DP- & DN-scores, which represent the variability of leader's cognition, and classified our leaders into 8 types on the basis of the three indices; DP, DN, & ASo. The experimental results revealed that the variability of leader's cognition had positive effects on his discriminative and predictive ability and on the appropriateness of his undertaking of leadership. The necessity of making clear the interrelationship between ASo-Contingency Model and the cognitive variability was suggested.

Determining factors of retroactive inhibition were analysed by paired-associate method, in which stimulus members were the same but response members were varied. Experimental design was so improved that intra-list effect was kept constant among lists. 10 graduate students in psychology served as Ss. Similarity between response members was determined by the method of multidimensional scaling. The amounts of retroactive inhibition had linear relationship with one of analysed dimensions. The dimension could successfully be used in predicting several critical cases.

A series of cross-cultural studies are reported with regard to finding generality in cognitive interaction across culturally heterogeneous subject groups. Three kinds of cognitive interaction were examined within the frame of the affective systems: (1) concept/scale interaction, (2) concept/concept interaction, and (3) subject/scale interaction. Overall evidence to date indicates that the effect of subject/scale interaction is relatively small in the determination of the semantic structure. It is generally concluded that greater generality is operating across culturally heterogeneous groups than is within-culture uniqueness in our cognitive interaction.
