The aim of the present study was to develop a test battery for evaluating the phonemic and prosodic perception of Chinese adults with hearing impairments. We developed the following test battery: (1) the Phonemic Perception Test, consisting of 20 monosyllabic words (CV) that included a simple vowel /a/ or /i/ in a level tone (1st tone), (2) the Sisheng Perception Test, consisting of 24 monosyllabic words (CV), including 6 kinds of the same phonemic words in 4 different tones, and (3) the Intonation Perception Test, consisting of 4 kinds of 2-word expressions with the same phonemic sequence but different intonation (statement/question). The aim of the latter two was to evaluate prosodic perception. We also analyzed the acoustic features of the test words and sentences. The test battery was taken by elementary school children (8-9 years old) with no hearing impairments, and by college students with hearing impairments. All of the participants were living in Tianjing City. The results were as follows: (1) The test battery was applicable for the school children, and (2) it can be utilized to estimate the phonemic and prosodic perception abilities of adults with hearing impairments.
