This is a report concerning studies of the toxicity of the mesoxalates in normal rabbits and rats, together with the histological examination of several main internal organs over an extended period of continuous administration. The minimum lethal dose was undetermined on account of its less toxicity, and there were no perceptible side effects in long administration of the drug. The marked proliferation or neogenesis of β cell in the islets of
Langerhans were found in rabbits which were administered the drug for 3 or 4 months, and in rats administered over 6 months. No substantial histological changes were noted in the liver, kidney and spleen in rats even after 12 months of the continuous administration.
