We had been performing a microbiological study on finger-tips of surgeons and nurses before and after surgical scrubbing followed by 0.05% chlorhexidine alcohol splash and immediate post-operative period using modiffied fingerprint plate method. In the present study, we focused on the bacterial elimination effect of povidone-iodine and chlorhexidine for hand-scrubbing. Finger-tip bacteria were eliminated more effectively with chlorhexidine than with povidone-iodine after scrubbing, splash and surgical operations. As expeced, bacterial elmination rate was highest after scrubbing. Interestingly, the finger-tip bacterium positive ratio was significantly lower for nurses than in surgeons on pre-scrubbing, post-scrubbing and post-operation samples.
