    In this paer, we propose a new circuit topology for soft switching in high f reauency applications for reduction of particulate matter exhausted from diesel engines. The principle of a zero current switching as a soft switching which utilizes an overlapping commutation phenomenon is elucidated with switching mode transition. Particulate reduction system applied by the high frequency inverters is developed.

    Sound power level evaluation methods for marine engines are investigated. Sound pressure based methods are discussed in this paper. In the highly reverbrant environment such as at engine room in a ship, precision of the sound pressure based methods tends to get worse.
    Through minute investigation on 10 test results, the authors introduce a new approach for the sound power evaluation in which mean level of PI index is used for environment correction factor. This approach, named the hybrid method, has both precision and practicality.

    This paper deals with a study on the chemical pyrolysis reaction of Diesel fuel oils. The pyrolysis is one of the dominant factors to understand the combustion process. The generation of aromatic series material in combustion gas is suspected to the chief element of the product of particulate matters. The study was conducted by an analysis using the affinity of chemical thermodynamics and experiments of heating fuel oils and hydocarbons in a constant volume vessel.
    As a result, the followings were given ;
    1. It was clear that a result from the analysis of chemical affinity on the pyrolysis reaction of hydrocarbons using thermal equilibrium constants agrees with that from the experiments of pyrolysis heating diesel fuel oils and some materials of pure hydrocarbons.
    2. A formation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene, toluene and so on was proved analytically and experimentally.

    Effective compression ratio was reduced by limiting the intake duration. This paper investigates the effect on thermal efficiency with discrepancy of compression ratio and expansion ratio for a compression ignition engine.
    A simple thermodynamics model analysis shows that a small thermal efficiency improvement is predicted by consideration of the influence of pressure ratio. Experimental results show certain improvements, more than thermodynamics analysis prediction, for BSFC at partial load. In a study of the result, it is found that a principal cause of the improvement is reduction of total friction loss in the engine with reduction of the maximum cylinder pressure.

    RECENTLY, it increase some trouble for combustion of Marine Diesel Engine because of getting lower quality Marine Fuel Oil with the advance of increase a demand of automoble gasoline.
    The other side, it is still not established the relation of cause and effect between combustion obstruction of Marine Diesel Engine and Marine Fuel Oil enough even if we utilize a Ignition., Combustion index.
    But we usually refer to general analyzed specification only.
    Therefore, we found one of our original method to decide the combustion character of Marine Fuel easier form correlation between No. 1 peak of Thermogranimetry differential curvilinear and ignition point by dta differential one.

    We, vessel operator face to much loss not only labor but also expense when have some obstruction, which are like as blockage of fuel filter by sludge, on the line of fuel pre-treatment system cause to inferior stability of Marine Fuel Oil including to mingle different kind of fuel each other.
    But at the present, there should be no way to determine the quantity simply except visual inspection such as a ‘Spot Test’
    In consideration of above, we will introduce our new method to know a character of Marine Fuel stability from Asphaltene content value/Aromatic ingredients value ratio from a view of generating sludge factor.
    And a method to estimate the stability for mixture/heating with I. R data of individual fuel before heating.
    And also a method to estimate the Ignition character of Marine Heavy Fuel Oil with original calculated Diesel index instead of Aniline point.

    There are about 150, 000 fishing boats which install the diesel engine in Japan. High speed diesel engines are widely used for coastal fishing boats.In this study exhaust gas emissions characteristics such as NOx, CO and Smoke were examined by means of a high speed diesel engine for fishing boats. These emissions were measured the difference between gas oil and fuel oil A. Moreover, the relation between atmospheric humidity and NOx concentration was evaluated. Total exhausted NOx weight from whole fishing boats was calculated by NOx exhaust coefficient which obtained from this engine. It is presumed that about 136, 000 tons in terms of NO2 of NOx in a year are exhausted from fishing boats in Japan.
