Four faculty of registered dietitian training courses and two public health dietitians who had experienced an earthquake in the past participated in a group interview that discussed how to develop registered dietitians who are competent in emergencies. Faculty said :(1) Pre-graduate education about nutrition in emergencies is important but its priority in teaching is low under time pressure. (2) If related items are added in new textbooks from here on, there is a high possibility to be talked in class.(3) Lecture should be vivid enough to imagine the situation in a time of disaster.(4) Development of teachware like record of dietitians'talk about their experience in disaster support service is desirable. (5) Competency in disaster situation can be developed through multidisciplinary exercise. Dietitians who work for public health center said :( 1) Nutrition education to disaster victims given by student volunteers is welcome. (2) As for preparing meals at test kitchens in the universities, locus of responsibility, delivery methods to evacuation sites and food costs are concerned. Universities and public health centers, those in charge of pre-graduate education and on-the-job training, respectively, should cooperate in development of human resources.
