We investigated the relevant factors in the engraftment of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) using the nutritional pathway and explored the significance of nutritional intervention. The subjects were the patients who underwent HSCT from January to September, 2019, at the Division of Stem Cell Transplantation at the Shizuoka Cancer Center (transplantation date : Day 0) and to whom the pathway was applied. The starting date of oral intake during the period from before pretreatment to the end of parenteral nutrition (PN) and each nutrition-related index were investigated. All 7 patients (2 females, 5 males) were 57 years old (median : 32-70) and had the body mass index (BMI) of 22.1 kg/m2. The intervention period was 45 days (28-75), and the mealskipping date was Day 11 (2-28), whereas starting date for oral intake was Day 15 (12-37). There were correlations among the starting dates of oral intake and fasting period, the durations of PN and the drug cost during PN/day (r=0.93 : p<0.01, r=0.76 : p<0.05, r=0.93 : p<0.01). The nutrition-related adverse events over time and caloric intakes showed negative correlations (r=-0.64 : p<0.01). The HSCT engraftment using the nutritional pathway is clinically meaningful.
