The Japan Dietetic Association (JDA) dispatched dietitians to the affected areas (Kesennuma, Ishinomaki, Iwate) by the Great East Japan Earthquake for support activities. We analyzed “what I thought today” column in their activity reports. Their free descriptions were categorized into similar groups and labeled. The groups that were common in the three areas were: (1) duration of activity (approximately 3 days) was short, (2) felt anxiety, tension, and discomfort, (3) no training or briefing, (4) opinions about JDA, (5) hygiene management was inadequate, (6) relief supplies were not effectively used, (7) disparities among shelters. What needed were: (8) mutual comprehension with other supporters and support groups, (9) close listening and psychological care, (10) support for local dietitians, (11) efficient clerical works, (12) nutritional management skills in disaster. It is acquired to make use of this study in training and system of the Japan Dietetic Association-Disaster Assistance Team (JDA-DAT).
