    This paper emphasizes that the influence of pore water pressure should be kaken into account when we analyze the stress in a soil mass or evaluate the stability of a slope. Although the stress in a soil mass varies with pore water pressures, most of the available FEM computer programs leave it out of consideration.
    We propose an improved computer program which includes the parameter of pore water pressure based on the Biot's theory. To understand the relationship between the stress and pore water pressure, we discussed two simple cases. In the first case, we concluded that the effect of pore water pressure should be taken into accout in designing a retaining wall.
    In the second case, we calculated the stress in a slope of a dam model, of which pore water pressures varied with water levesls of the reservoir. The results show that the factor of safety calculated tends to be smaller when the effect of pore water pressure was taken into account.

    地すべり粘性土の強度定数を乱した試料を用いて求める場合の問題点を明らかにした。そして, 破砕帯地すべり並びに第三紀層地すべりの地すべり粘性土の強度定数を三軸試験とリングせん断試験により求め, その特性について検討を行った。

    第3次クリープの掲時過程を表す次の基本式dv/dt=av+bv2を提案した。ここに, vは表面移動速度, tは時間, a, bは定数である。この式の無次元化を行い, 崩壊現場の無次元データに対して基本式の確認を行った。v-l phase上では, これらの無次元データは基本式とよく一致した。続いて, 基本式に関するパラメータa/(bv0) を取り上げ, これと崩壊形状の因子やクリープ因子との関係を調べた。ここに, v0vの初期値である。この解析より, a/(bv0) が崩壊時間trに対して重要なパラメータであることが示された。

    The writers have an interest in the slope failures in Thailand which consist of the natural features contrast in a striking way with Japan, and researched them on Nakhon Si Thammarat in the southern part of Thailand, The results are as follows.
    1) The slope failures caused by a heavy rain storm in Thailand show a tendency to be controlled by the topographical features; zero or first order stream, front of erosion, function of watershed and others.
    2) Surface soil of a surveyed area includes two types: deep weathering red soil and shallow weak weathering whitish soil. The slope failures occurred in both types.
    3) The slope failure materials are rich in Kaolinite on the basis of results of an X-ray diffraction analysis.

    The Higashi-nomyo landslide, located in the Niigata prefecture, has occurred repeatedly and caused many severe disasters since the 18 century. The basement rocks of this slide are mainly composed of Tertiary mudstone covered by Quaternary pyroclastics. The surface topography of the area of about 2km2, is divided into the upper part of large blocks configration disturbed by primary landslide and the lower part of gentle slope due to many secondary landslides. A greater amount of ground water in the pyroclastic masses of the primary landslide has been the source of water supply for the secondary landslides in the lower part.
    The historical and present slides have been the secondary landslides from the large-scale ancient primary landslide mass. The primary landslide occurred before 50ka in the Late Pleistocene and the modern type secondary landslides continued to the present have begun from 6-3ka. A present activity is extending to a part of the of the ancient primary landslide mass.
