The continuous separation of particles according to shape was carried out using a rotating conical disk with a spiral scraper for two kinds of materials.
The separation characteristics were discussed by Newton's separation efficiency on the basis of three shape indices of the particle.
It was concluded that the separation of particles depended mainly on the difference in degree of flakiness and that the device could be used as a separator of particles differing in shape.
The efficiency of shape separation on the basis of shape indices (φ
tl, φ
tb) approximately agreed with the efficiency obtained from judgment by the naked eye for hollow alumina particles.
