The adaptability of three parametric adsorption equations which were derived presuming the localized adsorption of a monolayer and a compressed gas-like non-localized adsorption model in the field of different potential energy from that of the gas phase for the upper adphase over a monolayer, was investigated. This was done by through Ar adsorption isotherms at 77K on microbeads SiO2-gel and aerosil SiO2-gels treated thermally at 250°-1000°C in comparison with a BET equation which was derived upon the basis of the stacked layer for the upper adphase region over a localized monolayer. The adaptability of experimental isotherms to each equation was confirmed by the fact that the BET equation agreeds with them in the range of relative pressure from 0.05 to 0.3 where the monolayer was completed and discrepancy from experimental ones was observed to rapidly increase in a range higher than 0.3, while three parameter adsorption equations agreed with in a range wider than that of the former, i. e., from 0.05 to 0.6 or 0.7 for Ar adsorption isotherms on aerosil SiO2-gel and in nearly entire relative pressure range for those on microbeads SiO2-gel.

A calculation procedure to estimate the size distributions of the products from a continuous tumbling fluidized bed coater, in which particles were mixed perfectly, was developed. Seed particles with a size range of about 50 to 200μm were coated in the coater by atomizing the suspension of clay particles. Measured particle size distributions of the products under steady state were compared with predicted results. Reasonably good agreement between the two showed that the calculating procedure was useful for predicting the size distributions of the products from the continuous tumbling fluidized bed coater.

If a change of state in a process can be grasped visually using an image processing unit and the process can be controlled, it becomes one of the advantages of the system. This is because the image processing unit can then be used as a detecting element when a physical quantity in a process cannot be measured directly. However, generally, vagueness inevitably accompanies the data because the image is visual data. Thus, the control methods that make the best use of the advantage of the image processing were investigated.
First the change of state in a process is detected from the image data. Fuzzy control is performed on the basis of the data to control the level of granules inside the hopper. Using triangular type of the membership functions the effects of the shape of these functions, the magnitude of gains and the fuzzy reasoning methods related to response of the process are examined. Good process responses were obtained by applying the fuzzy control method.
