    Method of the numerical representation of hand-feeling of fabrics has been investigated by the HandEvalua tion and Standardization Committeeduring two years and the standard feeling of the three main-hand, sti ffness, fullness and smoothness have been discussed and expressed by numerical values.
    Author has started at the same time the research for finding the transformation formula of the physical properties to the numerical values of the hand-feeling. The physical properties, which are mainly composed of the mechaical properties, are expressed by six groups, that are extentional property, compressional property, the surface property including the surrface friction and the contour, bending property, shearing property and dimensional and weight properties . Each of the groups contains two or three characteristic values, for example, the extensional property group contains tensile energy, resilience and non-linearity of the stress-strain curve, and the surface group contains the mean value and the mean deviation of frictional coefficient and the mean deviation of surface contour.
    On the other hand, a new system for measuring those characteristic values was designed by author . This system is consisted of four units, the tensile and shear testing machine, the bending tester, the compressional testing macine and surface testing machine .
    All of the characteristic values from the six propertygroups can be perfectly measured by those four instruments easily and quickly with high stability and high sensitivity.
    This system is now extensively working for, the evaluation of hand-feeling of fabrics.

    A hydraulic shedding device was developed to give heald frames a soft shedding motion at a higher speed. Two sets of double-acting piston cylinder and two directional control valves were used per one heald frame. The one of these two piston cylinders is reciprocated by linking with the main motion of the loom and this reciprocating motion is transmitted to the other piston cylinder through an oil motion under the cotrol of the directional control valve with three poitions. This valve is controlled by a pneumatic patten selecting device which transduces, the fabric pattern into the air signal, and the piston of the later cylinder operates according to the pattern . Being connected with a heald frame by a rope, the piston gives a shedding motion to the frame.
    This sehdding device .is an open shed type and a kind of the positive dobby.
    Experimental results have shown that this shedding device can be operated at more than 400 rpm.

    The circular fabric specimen drapes three-dimens ionaliy into several pleats or nodes . The significance of the number and shape of nodes relates to some aesthetic criteria. This paper discusses theoretically and experimentally that the shape factor of the nodes depends upon the ratio of the specimen diameter to the diameter of a circle equal in area to the figure enclosed by the draped fabric hem .
    It has been ascertained by the subjective evaluation that the difference between the theoretical and experimental values of shape factor represents the uniformity of the distribution of nodes and the aesthetic appearance of draped fabrics.
