The purpose of this study is to clarify the characteristics of the inhabitant's preference for regional landscape in Higashi-Hiroshima City. First of all, the inhabitants are required to take photos they prefer and dis-prefer from the fieldwork. Furthermore, the inhabitants are required to state their views on the taken photos in free-descriptive answer style. The views are divided into 2 categories, such as 'object' and 'reason', on the analysis. Then, the 2 categories are analyzed by quantification method of the third type. The results are that when the object is simplex, the landscape is recognized as 'dis-preferable'. When the object is complex, the landscape is recognized as 'preferable'. Secondly, the pictured landscapes are classified by the area ratio of the landscape elements and the composition of the landscape. As the results, 7 classifications of 'preferable' and 6 classifications of 'dis-preferable' are obtained. In addition, by the analysis of the landscape classification and 'reason', different tendencies in each classification, based on the existence of the various points of view to decide whether 'preferable' or 'dis-preferable' , are found.
